[DOOM Historic] Rest of shareware

Looking back, there were plenty of stuff I missed in comparing the shareware versions. Either I overlooked them or didn’t compare them correctly. (Used a slightly different method in the earliest versions) My apologies. Here is the video of things I forgot to add.

v1.0sw to v1.1sw had three maps where sides of doors not normally accessed by single/co-op players not function as doors. Although E1M4 wasn’t that big of a deal, (since it just leads to another secret) E1M3 and E1M7 had deathmatch players trapped in secret rooms, where the only way to get out was for other players to access that secret room. Not good deathmatch matches, I presume. The last door in the number of doors leading to the soulsphere secret in E1M5 was also repeatable from the outside in v1.0sw. Just like in the first DOOM Historic video, it’s possible to “lock” the door leading to the secret. Hiding deathmatch players?

The last bug from v1.0sw that was fixed was some missing textures that you normally never notice in single-player. In E1M6, doors close behind you. But behind those doors were some nasty missing textures. v1.1sw to v1.2sw also fixed some missing textures, except this time they were easily noticed no matter what game mode you’re playing. It’s the blue door switch area from E1M9. One bug that didn’t really break the mood from v1.1sw was the secret chainsaw door from E1M3. The back side of the door used a switch texture. Only in v1.1sw, it didn’t really act like a switch. This was fixed, though you can no longer open and close mid-way from that side.

The changes from v1.2sw to v1.666sw were more of the same. E1M2 had a nasty bug where you can lock yourself (or other people) out of the entire maze. The secret soulsphere door in E1M8 were upper unpegged in v1.2sw. What does that mean? It means that the texture didn’t rise when the door rose. Also, these textures became misaligned with the rest of the wall. (Tradeoff, I guess) Both of these were fixed in v1.666sw.

Also, the v1.0sw and v1.1sw multiplayer shown here is actually v1.2sw, as playing v1.0sw and v1.1sw through IPX on DOSBox has problems. (Either crash on first intermission, or -turbo 24/7)

The retail/Ultimate PC Doom contains 3-4 episodes. The shareware version only contains the first episode.

Hi, I’m confused about the shareware version of Doom. Does it have all of the levels of the original PC Doom? I always see links to download it but they never say what it is compared to it. So from this video I see that there are some missing pieces, but is it still the full game? Thanks

Unpegged doors are very amusing to watch. It’s like they’re being peeled off the wall.
