Batman – *Uncut* 60’s TV episodes 1+2 (1 of 6) Hi Diddle Riddle / Smack In The Middle

Time to set your WABAC Machine to Wednesday January 12, 1966, and tune your TV to the ABC television network at 7:30pm (…6:30 Central)!

Here are the very first episodes of the classic Batman series! UNCUT with no commercial interruption!

Adam West as Batman! Frank Gorshin as the Riddler! The Batusi! Bat-turns! Fantastically-ridiculous dialogue! It’s all here!

As you watch, notice the bizarre, out-of-synch sound effects during the opening credits (you’ll hear them over Adam West’s credit). The first two episodes are only ones with this oddity. (The spinning red light at the beginning is also silent…)

These are the episodes that launched the Bat-craze of 1966! Relive them now!

    The original series pilot, and arguably the best episode ever.

    Frank Gorshin as the Riddler was the all-time best Batman TV villain, and his 4 first season appearances were among the the show’s finest moments.

    I really enjoy the original ABC logo and intros from 1966…takes me back to my childhood when the show was first broadcast.

    the batman series went downhill when they started adding a bunch of more heros. i mean robin was gold but what was the point of bringing in a woman version of batman.

    @SHhol123 Not entirely disappear. He was in 3 comics between 1948 and 1966, but you are correct that Gorshan was such a cult icon that he literally put the Riddler in the spotlight.

    I’ve never ever seen the first one!

    Interestingly the Riddler disappeared from the Batman comics for 20 years and because he was chosen to feature in this episode he was reinstated for good. And he’s my favourite so I have a lot to thank this story for!

    Starting at 4:16, you can see the opening is a variation from the rest of Season1 and 2’s episodes, since this was Ep #1.

    I was born in 1966 (March) a few months after the series first aired. I was not available to see these episodes originally on ABC but this is great. I love the way ABC presents the program, i think i remember that. Batman was an amazing show for that era in television, i can imagine so many people nationwide were tuned in to ABC January 1966 to watch this first episode. That’s what make Batman such a phenomenon and a mainstay in American culture, i appreciate comic book heroes like Batman.

    As someone who was 3 1/2 when these episodes first aired in January,1966, I say thank you.I can only hope that when “Batman” is released on DVD
    (someday in my lifetime, I hope), this is the way ti is done.What a great time capsule!
