What mobile sim cards can I purchase when traveling to the Australia?

I’ll be travelling from US to Sydney Australia in May. My phone service company currently in US is T-mobile. I want to purchase a sim card when I arrive. What sim card can anyone recommend, that has the cheapest calls, when making local calls and receiving calls in Australia?

If you want cheap calls (10 cents a minute and 10 cent text messages) go for VirginMobile and recharge using the BeanCountier.

You do not get charges for receiving calls in Australia, we do not have Minute plans that you have in America.

  2. I wouldn’t recommend the two above mentioned (3 & Vodafone)

    The one i would recommend for you is Optus, they have great rates and great caps to suit whatever needs you have. The bonus with them is if you use one of the Prepaid Service Calling Cards (international phone cards) to call home on your mobile there is no additional surcharges and it won’t charge your mobile phone account for the call it will just come off the calling card which is much cheaper and will save you money.

    For example use an Optus mobile phone and then an Anytime calling card to call home. see below websites for more info.

  3. Hey, you may wanna buy a local Australian SIM card before you leave from US & know your local number before you leave.
