Tutorial: How to Upload HD Video to YouTube using freeware
This video explains how to format and upload HD (High Definition) video to YouTube using freeware available for PC. The same concepts should also apply to Mac, I have included a link to alternative freeware for Mac users.
The tutorial requires a few freeware programs available online:
VirtualDub:
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
VirtualDub gamma adjustment plugin:
http://www.64k.it/andres/data/virtualdub/ColourBriContr_01_f.zip (leads directly to download, only compatible with 32 bit version of VirtualDub) Goes in the VirtualDub “plugins” folder.
MPEG Streamclip:
http://www.squared5.com/
Quicktime:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
(Only needed if you don’t already have the h.264 codec)
To use the VirtualDub plugin, just extract the .zip contents into VirtualDub’s “plugins” folder.
VirtualDub isn’t available for Mac but the free program Avidemux has similar functionality:
http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/
I haven’t used Avidemux so I can’t help you there, but from my understanding it should be able to resize a video as needed for this tutorial.

@mlporart I don’t know…is it the source video from Fraps that is like that? if that’s the case I don’t really have any idea. If it’s afterward when you try to play back the uncompressed video on your computer that could be due to computer lag, most computers can’t play a 3 gb .avi file at full speed.

@aNiiMoSiTy The …
@aNiiMoSiTy The file size is admittedly larger than anything I’ve tried, really…I don’t know what would cause it to get hung up like that unless of course you’re running out of disk space. This video is pretty much just the process I use for formatting my stuff for youtube, with a video of that size you might want to try something a little simpler like using the HD export option in Windows Movie Maker and see if that works.
the file im using …
the file im using is about 44.6GB uncompressed , but when i import it to mpeg streamclip it only gets 26 seconds of the video.. any help?

@hellzgamer1 you …
@hellzgamer1 you need an end resolution of 1280 x 720; your video probably isn’t in 16:9 in which case you’ll need to set the height to 720 and then pillarbox it to 1280; in the instance of my video the format was wider than 16:9 so I letterboxed it to 1280 x 720 by setting the width to 1280.
Dude, I do 1280, …
Dude, I do 1280, and it doesn’t calculate right.
What’s happening?
@jessinshow You …
@jessinshow You don’t. This is just one of a million ways of getting a video compatible for YouTube HD, using only freeware. If you have quicktime pro or Final Cut, I’m sure there’s probably an easier way of doing this, all you need is to end up with a 1280 x 720 video at 24 fps or higher.
Hello, i’m new to …
Hello, i’m new to adding HD quality video to youtube. I’m using Final Cut on snowleopard and I can’t use VirtualDub as you mentioned. I already have the other software. My question is: why do I need VirtualDub, what does it do that quicktime, FCP, and MPEG Streamclip don’t do? I’m asking so that I can find it’s counterpart for Macs. Thanx!
