FSX: Stunning FREEWARE Mount Everest scenery in HD

A high definition showcase of the freeware Mt Everest scenery created by Frank Dainese. Please see my previous Everest video for details of where to download the necessary files. Please note that that it’s just the ground scenery that’s freeware, The clouds are by REX [Real Environment Xtreme] which is payware.

UPDATE: When I made these clips I forgot to install the high resolution mesh and because of that the mountains look a little too smooth & rounded. I’ve re-installed the mesh & it looks much better now. I may remake the video at a later date. For now you can see the difference by looking at my older FSX Everest video [see the video response to this].

I don’t know if these are optimal but they seem to work for me in most scenarios. I generally like high traffic levels – it’s amazing how many commercial airliners I see flying overhead when I’m flying round Everest, but I use Traffic X AND some WOAI traffic so it severely hits performance around major airports.

@Lvieru96 That’s what I’d advise – SP1 as a minimum. Some report further boosts from SP2 but for me that wasn’t such a big deal – if you can add more RAM at a later date I’m pretty sure you’ll see a noticeable difference from that.

@Lvieru96 I’m no expert on this but I know that FSX [with at least Service Pack 1] likes multi-core processors and doesn’t seem to care much for the graphics card. I don’t know how much RAM you have but GB for GB I would expect you to get similar performance.

  18. @Lvieru96 I think …
@Lvieru96 I think that’s a better processor than I have & FSX is very CPU/memory intensive… The graphics card shouldn’t be a problem – In my experience changing from basic integrated graphics to the 9600 made very little difference, but adding 2GB system RAM gave a noticeable boost in performance.
